How to Search the Summit County Court Docket
For District and Justice case information, the public door is Utah Courts Xchange. Start by picking the jurisdiction. From there, narrow the docket search to Summit County or the right court location. Names must match exactly unless a documented wildcard applies. A case number is quicker. Utah numbers are not unique statewide, though, so pair the number with the court and the county.
- Choose District, Justice, or both.
- Enter a name, case number, or citation number.
- Narrow by Summit County, court, case type, or date.
- Confirm the county and location in each result.
- Open Case History and read later entries.
- Ask the clerk for a certified copy when needed.
Each click of the Search button costs money. Before you spend a credit on a Summit County court docket query, the Xchange help page walks through scope, date limits, wildcards, and result controls, so build a tight search first.
Summit County Xchange Search Fields
Xchange lets you look across all cases or just judgments entered. The search fields cover last name or company, first name, case type, and birth date where offered. You can also search by citation number and location. Date panels narrow things by filings, dispositions, judgments, and judgment dispositions. One caution applies. Do not republish personal identifying data from a result.
| Field | Use | Summit check |
|---|---|---|
| Jurisdiction | District or Justice | Match the case level |
| Scope | State, county, or court | Select Summit County |
| Case type | Traffic, criminal, civil, domestic, probate | Reduce false matches |
| Date panel | Filing or disposition period | Narrow common names |
The official landing screen marks the public entry point to the state-court search. Xchange handles this, not the county government document portal.
What a Court Docket Shows
Utah calls its docket-style chronology Case History or Extended Case History. A docket result opens with an index. The full history sits behind it. Click through to view events, proceedings, filings, hearings, judgments, orders, pleas, and dispositions. Read with care. A filed charge is not a conviction. A scheduled hearing may be reset. And a filing does not prove a judge granted it.
| Case number | Direct identifier within a court context |
|---|---|
| Court and county | Where the matter is held |
| Case type | The Utah system category or code |
| Party code | Role such as PLA, DEF, PET, or RES |
| Proceeding | A dated step in the chronology |
| Disposition | The recorded resolution or status |
A Purchase link on a Summit County docket entry means an image of that public filing is for sale. That is all it means. The full court file may stay private, and the copy is not a certified one.
Reading Summit County Case History
Start at the oldest entry and read the case history forward. Then zero in on the newest order or judgment. That is where a Summit County docket currently stands. An extended criminal docket can list the agency, citation, charge class, plea, and account fields. Civil dockets often show public hearings and orders. A private attachment, though, sits outside the view.
- Case History
- Xchange’s chronological public information view.
- Setting
- A scheduled court event, not its outcome.
- Disposition
- The recorded resolution of a charge or case part.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-certified record, unlike a routine download.
The official party-code table should be used rather than guessing a role.
Which Courts Keep Dockets
The Utah Third District Court serves Summit County as its general-jurisdiction court. Its clerk holds felony, Class A misdemeanor, and most civil, domestic, probate, and related records. Summit County Justice Court keeps most Class B and C misdemeanors, plus traffic, infraction, ordinance, and local small-claims files. Juvenile staff hold confidential juvenile matters.
| Court | Docket covers | Start |
|---|---|---|
| Third District Court | Felony, Class A, civil, domestic, probate | Xchange District scope |
| Summit County Justice Court | B/C misdemeanors, traffic, infractions, small claims | Xchange Justice scope |
| Juvenile Court | Juvenile and child-welfare matters | Juvenile staff; generally nonpublic |
| Federal District/Bankruptcy | Federal matters | PACER, not Xchange |
A Justice Court appeal can move up to District Court for de novo review. The District Court then keeps its own separate proceeding on the case.
Summit County Court Access Map
Court locations in Summit County sit close together in Silver Summit, but each one keeps its own docket. Park City’s official courts page lists Third District and Juvenile Court at 6300 North Silver Creek Drive, with Summit County Justice Court in the same area. The street number for the Justice Court varies across official pages, so call before you drive out. The Justice Court number is 435-615-3800. For Third District Court, dial 435-615-4300.
The city’s courts page also carries the local contact block for the Silver Summit buildings. Sharing an area does not merge the courts. Each maintains separate jurisdiction and separate case records.
Finding Court Dates and Settings
Want to know when a case is set? The Utah court calendar lists District and Justice settings for a rolling two-week window, refreshed each day. Each line may carry the party name, case number, judge, hearing type, date, and time. Treat that line as a pointer, though, not the whole docket. To see whether a setting was held, continued, vacated, or reset, follow the case history. Then check any official notice tied to the matter.
For a linked party, MyCase sometimes lists the next appearance. One more thing to know: Summit County Justice Court holds most routine hearings over Webex. That holds unless the court says otherwise. No emailed link in hand? Call the court and ask. The full walkthrough for handling missed or changed settings sits in the Summit County court calendar page.
Summit County Remote Hearing Access
Remote hearings work differently at each Summit County court. The Justice Court asks participants to give a valid email address. That way it can send a direct Webex link. That instruction belongs to the Justice Court alone. Third District and Juvenile Court handle virtual access their own way. Some calendar entries list links. Others ask you to contact the assigned team before the hearing. Skip saved links and search-engine excerpts. A stale link can send you into the wrong session or nowhere at all. Work from the live calendar, the current order or notice, or a call to the court. Even from your kitchen table, a virtual hearing is still a formal court event. It carries real consequences.
Public Access to Dockets
Utah sets the rules for court record access through Utah Code and Judicial Council rules, not by routing every request to Summit County under GRAMA. Any person can ask for a public court record. Classifications, redactions, formats, and lawful fees still apply. Send each request to the court that created or keeps the record.
Key access rules: Rule 4-202.02 classifies records. Rule 4-202.03 controls access to public and restricted classes. Rule 4-202.08 governs fees and waivers.
Ordinary Xchange searches will not show sealed or expunged cases. Adoption, juvenile, and child-welfare files stay out of a routine public docket search, as do mental-health commitment records and designated nonpublic criminal matters.
When Summit County Dockets Look Blank
A blank Summit County docket search does not mean the case is gone. The usual culprits are plain ones. A misspelled name sends the lookup astray. So does the wrong court scope, a tight date filter, an old record that was converted, or a case sealed by a restricted classification. Search District and Justice scopes separately. Utah courts document a wildcard you can try. It pays to remove one narrow filter at a time rather than all of them at once. If the entry still will not appear, call the right clerk with the case number if you have it.
Do not assume no case ever existed. Utah's 2026 expungement guidance notes that MyCase may display "Case Expunged." Xchange may no longer show the record at all. Someone with a lawful right to nonpublic material must take the entitlement route and offer proof of that right.
The Clerk and Docket Records
The court docket lives with the court clerk, not with Summit County's elected administrative Clerk or Recorder. That distinction trips people up. The Third District clerk keeps the district court files. Justice Court staff keep the justice court files. Over in Coalville, the county offices handle elections, county administration, and land records, which sit in entirely separate public-record systems from any court docket.

Summit County Court Record Costs
Remote searches, document purchases, paper copies, and certified copies are billed as separate products in Utah. Paper copies run $0.25 per sheet. That price is on the state's request page. Staff time is free for the first 15 minutes, then charged. The fee schedule effective May 6, 2026 prices certified copies at $4 per document. It adds $0.50 per page. Exemplified copies cost $6 plus $0.50 per page.
| Record product | Researched fee |
|---|---|
| Xchange public image | Generally $1 per document |
| Paper copy | $0.25 per sheet |
| Certified copy | $4 plus $0.50 per page |
| Electronic audio/video | $15 per half-day |
Check the current Utah fee schedule before ordering, since written requests ordinarily carry a ten-business-day response baseline.
Summit County Court Docket History
Coalville's native-stone courthouse went up in 1903 and 1904. The town still serves as the Summit County seat. State-court activity, though, now clusters near Park City and Silver Summit. That split trips up record seekers. They sometimes call a county government office for a Utah Judiciary file. Geography and court systems do not match. The online tools add their own limits. CORIS and Xchange draw a time boundary. District coverage reaches back to CORIS adoption, mostly complete by the end of 1998. Justice coverage varies, and older converted records run thin. Public District documents filed electronically since July 1, 2010 enjoy broader availability through Xchange.
Court Dockets by City in Summit County
Five local entry points come from the 2020 Census incorporated-place ranking. Kamas, Oakley, Francis, and Coalville offer no separate municipal court portal. Park City's page describes a county-operated Justice Court. Administrative parking tickets are kept separate. Match the court on each ticket or filing. Search by Utah court level to land on the right Summit County court docket.
Park City Court Docket
8,396 residents; Silver Summit access and a separate city parking route.
Kamas Court Docket
2,092 residents; use Summit County and the correct court level.
Oakley Court Docket
1,588 residents; no separate portal found in reviewed sources.
Francis Court Docket
1,564 residents; Xchange routes state court matters.
Coalville Court Docket
1,486 residents; county-seat offices are not court clerks.
The official incorporated-place table supports the ranking.
Population sets the page order only, never court jurisdiction or docket volume.
Summit County Public Access Channels
Xchange is one route to a Summit County court docket, not the only one. Most District locations offer a free public terminal, and some Justice locations do too. Call first to confirm. The State Law Library runs another free Xchange point. MyCase serves parties who want linked papers, notices, balances, and appearances. The statewide calendar lists court dates. A clerk counter can sort out the right request process for any case lookup.
Copies need the Utah Request for Court Record form. Send it to the court holding the file. Include the court level and Summit location. Add the case number, case type, date, and document. Say whether you want inspection or copies, and name the product. Mail, email, fax, or drop-box works only when current court directions allow it. Xchange documents go out by neither fax nor email.
Summit County District Docket Volume
The Summit District FY2023 report counts 448 criminal filings, 206 domestic filings, 428 general civil filings, 1,273 judgment filings, and 105 probate filings. Digging into those groups turns up 194 state felonies, 53 DUI filings, 138 divorces, 231 debt-collection filings, and 969 tax liens. All of these are one fiscal year's category totals. They do not each equal a different person. A closed-case percentage is not a win rate either. Courts may finish matters filed in an earlier year, and some category percentages run past 100 percent.
Read the official Summit District table as workload history. Newer state dashboards filter by court type, district, county, location, case type, and fiscal year. For any individual public history, Xchange is still the route.
Summit County Docket Record Choices
Pick your product before contacting a clerk. An Xchange case history gives you an index and timeline. A public image is a single filed paper. A certified copy adds the clerk's certification, and an exemplified copy carries added authentication. A digital recording preserves hearing audio or video. An assigned transcriber prepares an official transcript from it. None of these products swap for another just because they concern the same Summit County docket.
The official form also covers a fee waiver, expedited treatment, and access to a nonpublic record. That last option applies when the requester has a legal entitlement. Each option needs the support the rules require. A clerk can explain the process and arrange fees, but cannot unseal a record, make a private one public, or give legal advice. Describing your request precisely also trims avoidable staff search time.
Map and Directions to the Silver Summit Justice Center
Third District Court's Summit County felony, Class A misdemeanor, general civil, domestic, and probate files are kept at the Silver Summit Justice Center, 6300 North Silver Creek Drive, in an area roughly six miles from downtown Park City off Highway 40. Juvenile Court is listed at the same address. Summit County Justice Court is also associated with this location on the city and county court pages, though the Justice Court's own page lists a different Paintbrush Road address, so confirm which counter to use before a justice-level trip.
